Accessibility & Additional Assistance
At Detroit Metro Airport, we strive to make our services available to all of our passengers and visitors.
If you want to request wheelchair assistance, please contact your airline. Please note, you will need to visit your airline’s ticket counter upon arrival to Detroit Metropolitan Airport for wheelchair service. Additional information regarding wheelchair and mobility assistance may be found on our wheelchair assistance page.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provides information for passengers with disabilities and medical conditions. They also provide a helpline, TSA Cares, that can be reached by phone at (855) 787-2227 or email TSA-ContactCenter@tsa.dhs.gov.
Accessibility Services
Wayfinding & Signage
Braille signage is available on ground-level signs throughout the McNamara Terminal and Evans Terminal. Wayfinding signage and visual paging are available throughout the terminals. Hearing loops are located at certain gates in the McNamara Terminal.
TSA provides additional resources for passengers going through security checkpoints. Contact TSA Cares for more information.
Family Restrooms
Family restrooms are located throughout both terminals. All restrooms are wheelchair accessible. You can find specific locations of these restrooms on our interactive maps for McNamara Terminal and Evans Terminal.
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking spaces are available in each parking structure and surface parking lot. Only those vehicles that display a Disability Parking Placard or Disability License Plate, issued by the Secretary of State’s office, may use these spaces. Vehicles not displaying the Disability Parking Placard or Disability License Plate will be subject to fines and towing costs. When parking at the surface parking lots, free shuttle service is available to transport travelers to each Terminal's Ground Transportation Center.
Most areas of the parking structures are not able to accommodate vehicles over 7’-0” high. However, Van Accessible parking spaces (for vehicles not exceeding 8’-2” in height) are available in designated areas of the Big Blue Deck and McNamara Parking Garages. For vehicles higher than 8'2" in height, parking spaces are available at the Green Lots. Detroit Metro Airport has several ground transportation options for people with disabilities.
Stimulus Sensitivity
The McNamara tunnel features changing lights along large sections of the walls with accompanying sound. Passengers can suspend this display for five minutes by pressing the button at each end of the tunnel (to the right at the bottom of the escalators).
Traveling With Oxygen
If you need to travel with oxygen, please check with your airline for specific requirements when reserving your flight.
