Detroit Metropolitan Airport to provide update on 2019 runway reconstruction plans
Participants will receive an update on the 2019 reconstruction of Runway 3L-21R and its associated taxiways at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)
DETROIT (March 3, 2018) – The Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) invites the community to attend a public information meeting on March 7, 2018. Participants will receive an update on the 2019 reconstruction of Runway 3L-21R and its associated taxiways at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). In December, the Airport Authority held a meeting that provided an overview of DTW’s plans. The March session will highlight the project’s environmental analysis, which determined there are no significant environmental effects or extraordinary circumstances associated with the runway reconstruction.
There will not be a formal presentation during the public information meeting. Instead, participants may arrive anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Airport Authority staff members and their design team will be available to explain the objectives of the reconstruction project and the outcome of the environmental analysis. Copies of the analysis are available at https://metroairport.com/business/about-wcaa/public-notices.
"This reconstruction project will not only result in new pavement but also improved runway and taxiway lighting," said WCAA Vice President of Planning, Design and Construction Tom McCarthy. "Similar to our work on Runway 4L-22R that was completed in 2016, we will incorporate environmentally sustainable practices into this project."
Work on Runway 3L-21R is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2019 and conclude by winter 2020. The runway will only be closed for one construction season. This project is the result of DTW’s Master Plan, which addresses the increasing needs of the airport’s customers and stakeholders.
